Hiking is such a great fitness activity and it gets you outdoors in the fresh air. Anyone can do it and you don’t have to fight traffic or breathe in the smog, and it’s free! Some people like to work out indoors in a fitness gym when it rains but I much prefer the outdoors. I have been hiking almost every day all winter and because it has been a mild winter on Vancouver Island we have been getting lots of rain and very little snow. Even when it snows you can hike in the snow using snow shoes. I like to say that there is really no such thing as a bad day of hiking or any excuse for not going, just inadequate clothing and gear. Be well prepared and you will enjoy hiking in the rain.
Pretend, If you are a creative parent you could create an elaborate scenario where the kids are camping as early settlers who are beginning a new civilization. Nature brings out the creativity in all of us. It allows your childrens minds to run wild with new idea.
